It's that time of year again.........,by Marilyn Davy
19 Dec 2019
This time of year, planning looks more like scrambling and most of us are running around trying to complete everything before Christmas.
Once you have finished for the year make sure you spend time away from your business. Take time to relax,
- pour the sav,
- serve the pav
- and activate holiday mode.
Relax, unwind and get perspective on this year’s achievements.
Grab a pen and paper and ask yourself:
- What were your business goals when you started?
- What three things would you change?
- What will you do differently in 2020?
Put your answers somewhere safe for later. Return to your holiday whether it be catching that big snapper, playing on the beach with the whanau, reading a good book or watching the sun set. Whatever you do enjoy yourself and have some fun, laughter is an instant holiday.
In the New Year, before you get back into the daily routine, take out your notes. Review your answers and make a plan.
Where will you make a splash next year?
If you want to make some improvements to your business, whether that be profitability, less money tied up in it, or reducing the amount of time you need to spend in it, you need a plan to make this happen.
“The power of an idea is in its implementation.”
If you are organised and self disciplined this may be easy for you. If you are someone who can be easily distracted or get too immersed in the day to day running of the business it can be more of a challenge. You may need someone to bounce ideas off, hold you to account and make sure you do the things you promised. This could be a business partner, spouse or someone independent. The important thing is that you respect them, you will feel guilty if you don’t achieve the agreed action plan and they will not let you off the hook too easily.
ONE DAY OR DAY ONE – YOU DECIDE.
In summary, set your goals for what you want to achieve and devise strategies to achieve them. Monitor your progress against your goals monthly. Never quit too early, keep at it and remember great things can take time. But at the same time be prepared to change and adapt if some strategies are not working.
Decisions X Actions X Accountability = RESULTS
